Severe rainfall in Guinea has resulted in the deaths of four people and the disappearance of another, with torrential downpours wreaking havoc since mid-August.

The National Agency for Emergency and Humanitarian Disaster Management in Guinea reported that the heavy rains have displaced around 20,000 families, flooded homes, roads, and bridges, and triggered multiple landslides. Livestock were also swept away by the deluge.

Lansana Touré, the agency's director general, stated that the first humanitarian convoy was sent to affected areas recently.

Due to the displacement, many residents have taken refuge in schools, with additional aid convoys planned.

Touré added that, depending on available funds, the government aims to implement cash transfers to help impacted families manage basic expenses.
