4 Egyptians Killed in Cyprus' Mass Wild Fires, Cypriot Cabinet Approves Financial Packages to Families

Four Egyptians were killed in huge wildfires in Limassol and Larnaca, Cyprus, Reuters reported on Sunday.

Ongoing for the second day, the fire was strengthened by strong wind and affected more than 10 communities.

Regarding the victims, it is confirmed that they are Egyptians, and their bodies were found near Odou, north Limassol, and Larnaca.

Cypriot Interior Minister Nicos Nouris said: "All indications point to it being the four persons who were missing since yesterday."

Therefore, Fire fighting planes departed from Greece to assist Cyprus to control the fires before crossing the mountain and reaching Machaires.

In the same context, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades described on Sunday: "This is a tragedy, we have faced nothing worse than this since the invasion," adding, “This is one of the most destructive fires and all concerned institutions reacted immediately to avoid the loss of human life.”

Until this moment, the main reason for this unstoppable fire remains unknown, however, officials revealed that a-67-year old person was questioned as he was in connection with fire.

The Egyptian Embassy in Nicosia confirmed the news of the death of four Egyptians. In addition, the Egyptian authorities are in direct contact with the Cypriot ones for facilitating the process of transporting the four bodies to Egypt.

Therefore, the Cypriot cabinet approves financial compensations packages to the four victims' families. Each family will receive €95,000, in addition to €35,000 for each of the victims' children. Also, the children will be given scholarships to Cyprus universities.

The four victims were identified as Morzok Shady Morzok, 35, Hisa Melad Farouk,29, Ezat Salama Josef,28, and Maged Nabil Yonan, 24.
