At least four people were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb explosion in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, security officials confirmed on Monday.

The improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a parked vehicle in the Killa Abdullah district, located less than 100 kilometers from Quetta, the provincial capital.

According to security officer Gulab Khan, the device appeared to have detonated prematurely, before reaching its intended target.

Local government official Riaz Khan Duwar also confirmed the incident, stating that the blast occurred on Sunday evening near a compound used by pro-military paramilitary forces.

Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, has been the center of a decades-long armed insurgency. Militant groups in the region frequently target government forces, foreign nationals, and non-local residents.

The province is rich in natural resources but remains economically underdeveloped and politically unstable.

The attack follows a deadly ambush earlier in the week in which four members of a paramilitary force were killed.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist militant group, regularly claims responsibility for such attacks targeting security personnel and civilians from other provinces of Pakistan.
