Heavy rains over the past week have caused extensive damage in several areas in central and southern Taiwan, leaving four people dead, 74 injured, and three missing as of Sunday evening, according to the island's fire department.
On Sunday, 108 monitoring stations in Taiwan recorded daily rainfall exceeding 200 mm, while one site in Kaohsiung City recorded 2,759 mm of accumulated rainfall over the week, exceeding the island's annual average of 2,500 mm.
