Four people were injured in a shooting near the regional court in Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, western Germany, on Wednesday.
Authorities have detained two suspects, according to the Associated Press.
Police sources told the German news agency DPA that multiple shots were fired during the attack.
The injured individuals were transported to the hospital, but officials have not disclosed the severity of their injuries.
In an official statement, police did not rule out a connection between the shooting and an ongoing trial at the courthouse.
Later in the day, authorities announced they had recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the attack but declined to provide further details about the victims or suspects.
The incident comes as a high-profile trial is underway at the Bielefeld court. The case involves a suspect accused of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of former boxer Besar Nimani nearly a year ago.
