4 Injured in Shooting Attacks at Social Security Office & Court in Athens

Greek authorities reported that a gunman opened fire at a social security office and later at a court building in central Athens on Tuesday, injuring at least four people.

According to police, the suspect, believed to be an 89-year-old man, first entered a social security office in the Kerameikos district, where he shot and injured an employee. 

He then moved to the area near the Court of Appeal in Ambelokipi, where he fired again on the ground floor, injuring three additional people.

Local reports cited by Kathimerini said the attacker was carrying a hunting rifle. He fled the scene after the shootings, leaving the weapon behind.

Authorities immediately evacuated the courthouse and deployed heavy police forces to both locations, launching a wide search operation.

All injured victims were taken to a Red Cross hospital for treatment, with reports indicating that their injuries were mainly to the lower limbs. 

Police investigations are ongoing as officials work to determine the motive behind the attacks.
