Four people have been injured after a small plane collided with multiple vehicles during a dramatic incident at a California racetrack on Sunday.
The crash occurred as the aircraft struck three large trucks and five cars while flying at a low altitude over the racetrack in Pomona, California.
The crash left the pilot and three passengers injured, with injuries ranging from moderate to severe.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that all four individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The collision occurred during the National Hot Rod Association’s racing finals, forcing the event to be suspended.
Eyewitnesses described the scene in shock, with one witness recalling how the plane, which was flying just above their head, managed to tear the roof off one of the trucks in a dramatic fashion.
The small plane, which can accommodate six passengers, had been attempting an emergency landing at a nearby airport when it crashed into a mobile home and two trucks, causing significant damage to the aircraft.
Pomona police confirmed that the plane struck several vehicles on the ground, but miraculously no bystanders were injured.
The pilot and three passengers were all taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.
