The Korean Cultural Center in Egypt hosted a preliminary competition for the 2021 k-pop World Festival yesterday at the opera House’s Open-Air Theater.
Eight groups had a chance to perform during the final night. At the venue, anti-Covid measures were strictly implemented for the safety of the participants and audience.
The K-POP World Festival is an annual worldwide music and dance competition hosted by Changwon World Dance festival for K-POP lovers worldwide in which contestants showed off K-POP content in a dance format.
Interestingly, the competition was co-hosted by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS).
The festival has been developed in a way to unite the K-POP fans and enhance the popularity of Hallyu ‘Korean cultural wave’ across the globe.
Undoubtedly, the preliminary competition is seeking to provide an opportunity for the K-POP fans in Egypt to demonstrate their talents in dance shows.
Celebrating the BTS as one of the most popular bands in the world that charted multiple No.1 Hits on Billboard, all participants performed a dance show for one of BTS’s songs.
"BTS as well as K-POP teams are fueling interests in Korean culture including language, films, drama, fashion and food," Oh Sung ho, Director the Korean cultural centre explained.
In addition, he expressed his appreciation for the K-POP fans in Egypt, affirming that the Center will continue supporting their activities to promote broader mutual understanding between Egypt and South Korea.
Four teams have been selected by a panel of judges to participate in the online Changwon K-POP World Festival scheduled in October in South Korea.
Glitch Gang girls’ team won the 1st place, while the second place went to Black Eagle. Yara Mahgoub won the 3rd place while Adelpha took the 4th place.
The audience enjoyed splendid dance shows performed by all groups while the panel of Judges expressed admiration for their overall performance.
