Severe floods in Romania have claimed the lives of at least four people, while several others remain missing as relentless rains continue to batter vast areas of Central and Eastern Europe.
The region is facing its third consecutive day of heavy downpours, raising concerns about some of the worst flooding in decades.
Emergency response teams, including over 200 firefighters, have been deployed to assist in evacuations and rescue operations, according to reports from Bloomberg on Saturday.
Romania's Interior Minister, Cătălin Predoiu, stated that around 5,000 households across seven counties have been affected by the floods. Emergency services have evacuated 160 people and rescued nearly 100 others.
Meteorologists are warning of further heavy rainfall across Central Europe, with some areas expecting up to 500 millimeters of rain, potentially exacerbating the already severe flooding situation.
The flooding has raised alarms across Romania and neighboring countries as authorities scramble to manage the crisis and minimize the damage caused by the deluge.
