At least four individuals perished in an avalanche in the "Massif Central" mountain range in south-central France, according to media reports on Sunday.

Three additional persons were reported injured, and two others are missing.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in "Val d'Enfer" near the "Mont Dore" ski resort, situated at altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 1,846 meters.

Local newspaper "Midi Libre" reported that the victims were skiing at the time of the avalanche.

The paper, citing an expert, suggested that rain might have triggered the disaster by adding extra weight to the snow cover formed in the preceding hours.

Adverse weather conditions complicated the search for the two missing individuals on Sunday.

Avalanches are an uncommon occurrence in the "Massif Central" region.
