A fierce battle erupted in central Somalia near the village of Shabeelo yesterday evening, resulting in 35 casualties, as Al-Shabaab terrorist militants clashed with regional quasi-military forces.

According to a regional security commander, more than 25 terrorist fighters and 10 government forces were killed in the confrontation. Al-Shabaab, on the other hand, claimed to have killed dozens of government soldiers through its channels.

Somali Deputy Minister of Information, Abdulrahman Yusuf, stated that the terrorists suffered heavy losses and added, "Al-Shabaab is losing more territory every day. Its presence in Galmudug State in Somalia is almost ending."

The Somali military, with the assistance of local militias, has been conducting a major offensive against the militants, reclaiming extensive areas in the country's central region that were previously under terrorist control.

However, the Al-Shabaab movement still retains control over significant territories, particularly in the south of the country.
