The governor of the Boucle du Mouhoun region of northwest Burkina Faso said that at least 33 people have died in a terrorist strike.
The village of Youlou in the Tcheriba department of the Mouhoun Province experienced a "cowardly and barbaric" terrorist attack on Thursday at 5 p.m. local time (1700 GMT), according to a statement from governor Babo Pierre Bassinga.
According to the governor, the preliminary death toll stands at 33. "The armed men targeted peaceful citizens busy with their vegetable farming activities on the banks of the river, causing loss of life," he added.
Since 2015, there have been numerous fatalities and thousands of displaced people in the West African nation due to instability.
