At least 32 people have been killed and more than 700 injured after two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday, according to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.

In a televised address to the nation on Thursday, Rodríguez said authorities had confirmed 32 fatalities and over 700 injuries, warning that the toll could rise as assessments continue in the country's hardest-hit areas.

She noted that officials have yet to receive complete data from the coastal state of La Guaira, near the capital Caracas, which is believed to have suffered the most severe damage from the twin earthquakes.

Emergency teams remain deployed across affected regions as rescue efforts and damage evaluations continue. Authorities have not yet provided details on the magnitude of the earthquakes or the extent of destruction to infrastructure.

The deadly tremors add to mounting concerns over Venezuela's disaster preparedness, with officials expected to release further updates as information becomes available.
