31st Arab Summit: Sisi, Somali Counterpart Hold Talks in Algeria

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting on Wednesday, with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, on the fringe of the 31st Arab Summit in Algeria, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

At the outset of the meeting, the President affirmed Egypt's pride in its historic relations with Somalia, and its keenness on the interests of the brotherly Somali people within the framework of a unified, stable, and strong state, as well as supporting Somalia to deal with the various challenges it faces, especially the threat of extremism and terrorism.

Moreover, Sisi stressed Egypt's readiness to continue providing support to Somalia to build and consolidate state institutions, activate various aspects of bilateral cooperation with Somalia, especially at the economic and commercial levels, provide humanitarian and relief aid to confront drought crises, and train Somali technical cadres.

On his part, the Somali president affirmed his country's keenness to enhance consultation and coordination with Egypt on various regional files of common interest, as well as to develop bilateral cooperation at various levels.

He also referred to the historical relations between the two brotherly countries at the official and popular levels, praising Egypt's historical role in supporting Somalia in various fields.

Furthermore, the meeting followed up on the results of the Somali President's recent visit to Cairo last July with the aim of strengthening various aspects of bilateral relations, as well as exchanging visions on various regional issues of common concern, especially those related to the security of the Red Sea.

In addition, the Somali president also reviewed the latest developments in the internal situation of his country, and the steps being taken to restore security and stability and to overcome the various challenges it faces, foremost of which is the threat of terrorism.
