A tragic road accident in Mali claimed the lives of 31 individuals and left 10 others injured, some critically, when a bus transporting passengers to Burkina Faso plummeted off a bridge on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Transport.
The ministry's statement revealed that the bus, carrying Malian nationals and citizens from the sub-region departing from Kenya towards Burkina Faso, overturned from a bridge, likely due to the driver's inability to control the vehicle.
The incident occurred around 5:00 PM local and GMT on a bridge crossing the Bagoé River in the Niéna-Koumantou area.
This accident follows another devastating event eight days prior, where a collision between a bus and a truck in central Mali resulted in 15 fatalities and 46 injuries.
Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in Mali, often attributed to the poor condition of roads and vehicles.
