At least 31 people were killed and dozens injured after a passenger bus plunged into a steep ravine in Ethiopia's Amhara region, police said on Monday.
According to authorities in Kombolcha, the overcrowded bus was traveling from Dessie to the capital, Addis Ababa, when it veered off a mountainous road and crashed into a narrow valley early in the morning.
Officials said the death toll was worsened by delays in emergency response due to poor infrastructure and limited ambulance services in the area. Many injured passengers were transported using public vehicles.
The road where the accident occurred is known for its dangerous terrain and has been the site of previous traffic incidents.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.
