Late Wednesday, 3 United Nations (UN) peacekeepers were killed and 6 others were wounded in central Mali after an explosive device exploded in a convoy and came under fire, according to a statement by the UN.
It was not clear who carried out the attack, which took place about 20 km north of the town of Bambara-Maude in the Timbuktu region.
Extremist groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS carried out many terrorist attacks in the area.
In a statement, Mali's Ministry of Defense revealed that the dead peacekeepers are from the Ivory Coast.
