At least three rockets of unknown origin landed on Saturday near the Mezzeh district and its military airport in the Syrian capital Damascus, causing material damage, according to official media.
The Syrian state television channel Al-Ikhbariyah quoted an unnamed security source as saying that “three rockets fell simultaneously on the Mezzeh 86 neighborhood in Damascus and the surrounding area of Mezzeh Military Airport.”
The source added that one of the rockets caused damage to the Al-Mohammadi Mosque in Mezzeh 86, while no casualties were reported.
Security Forces Launch Investigation
According to the same source, internal security forces were immediately deployed to the area and have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack.
Earlier on Saturday, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported hearing an explosion in the vicinity of Mezzeh, noting that authorities were verifying its nature.
Later, the agency quoted a security source confirming that a rocket of unknown origin had fallen near Mezzeh Military Airport without causing injuries or material damage.
Ongoing Security Challenges
The identity of the perpetrators remains unclear. The incident comes amid heightened security tensions in Syria, as authorities continue to confront growing instability linked to remnants of the former regime, particularly in central and western parts of the country.
The new Syrian administration has intensified efforts to restore security and assert state control, as part of broader plans aimed at recovery from years of devastating war, advancing reconstruction, and achieving long-term stability.
