A gunman opened fire on police officers in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, killing three and critically wounding two others before being fatally shot by law enforcement, authorities confirmed.
The incident took place in the town of Codorus, York County, approximately 185 kilometers west of Philadelphia. Officers had been responding to a domestic violence case when the suspect began shooting.
Christopher Paris, Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, told reporters that five officers were struck by gunfire. Three were killed instantly, while two others were rushed to hospital in critical but stable condition. The shooter was later killed after being struck by police return fire.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro described the attack as a tragic and devastating day for both York County and the entire state, emphasizing the risks faced daily by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
