On Sunday, the Addis Ababa Police Commission announced that 3 were killed and 5 wounded in a grenade explosion in the vicinity of a mosque in the Ethiopian capital.

Almayho Ayalqeb, Director of the Special Investigations and Organized Crime Police in Addis Ababa, said that a grenade explosion occurred behind a mosque in the Lideta area in the centre of the capital, killing 3 homeless people in the streets and wounding five others.

He added in a statement that the grenade was planted in a square behind the mosque, where it was placed by unknown persons, indicating that investigations are being conducted and the police will announce the results later.

The Ethiopian police units did not blame any party, but last month they warned against the occurrence of suicide operations that might be launched by terrorist cells affiliated with Tigray Liberation Front.

It's noteworthy that this month, a hand grenade exploded near Addis Ababa International Airport, while another was dismantled in the centre of the capital before it exploded.
