US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Sunday that American forces carried out a lethal strike on a ship operated by a drug trafficking network in the Caribbean.
The operation, which took place in international waters and was overseen by President Donald Trump, resulted in the deaths of three men aboard.
In a post on his social media account, the Secretary stated that the targeted vessel had been identified as part of a known smuggling route. He added that no US personnel were harmed during the mission.
The strike underscores the US government’s intensified efforts to curb maritime drug trafficking in the region, especially along critical sea routes used by criminal organizations.
