Three individuals were reportedly neutralized Tuesday following a shooting incident near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, according to Turkish media.
The attack injured two police officers, Haberturk reported via social media platform X, highlighting a heavy security presence outside the consulate in the Levent district after gunfire was heard.
The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions. On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Israel during a government meeting in Ankara, accusing it of undermining diplomatic efforts to end ongoing hostilities with Iran, which continue to result in casualties.
Erdogan described Israel as a “state that feeds on conflict,” citing actions including the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque, targeting of Palestinian prisoners, and exploitation of tensions in Lebanon and Syria. He emphasized that Turkey will not remain passive in the face of violence affecting Iran and warned that attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure cannot go unanswered.
The president also cautioned about the wider implications of the conflict, noting global shocks to energy, agriculture, and industrial sectors caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Gas prices reportedly surged 100% and oil prices rose 60% within 30 days.
Concluding his remarks, Erdogan called on the international community to take a firm stand against aggression and reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to peace and regional stability.
