Three people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting incident in Montreal, prompting a major police response in the city's Côte-des-Neiges district.
Authorities said an officer from the Montreal Police Service was injured while responding to reports of gunfire. Videos circulating online appeared to show the suspect firing shots while being pursued by police.
Residents within a large security perimeter were ordered to shelter in place as officers secured the area and conducted investigations.
The city's public transit operator, Société de transport de Montréal, temporarily suspended service at the nearby Namur metro station due to the incident.
Witnesses reported hearing between 10 and 12 gunshots, followed by scenes of panic as families and children fled the area. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
