The United States has carried out another airstrike in the Caribbean, killing three people aboard a vessel suspected of drug trafficking, according to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Hegseth shared aerial footage of the strike on X, stating that the attack took place in international waters and targeted a boat allegedly operated by a group classified as a terrorist organization.
Since early September, Washington has been conducting regular air raids across the Caribbean, claiming to target drug-smuggling operations. This latest attack raises the death toll from the campaign to at least 70 people.
The Trump administration has also announced the destruction of 18 boats but has yet to provide evidence linking their crews to drug trafficking.
Experts have questioned the legality of these strikes against suspects who have not been intercepted or interrogated. However, the US government continues to justify them as part of its war on narcotics networks it labels as terrorist organizations.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro of being tied to one of these cartels, while Maduro denies the allegations and accuses Washington of attempting to destabilize Venezuela.
The United States currently maintains a strong military presence in the region, deploying eight warships, an aircraft carrier, and F-35 fighter jets stationed in Puerto Rico.
