A hostage situation in Austin, Texas, turned deadly as three people, including a police officer, were killed in a gunfire exchange.

According to the American news network ABC, Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson stated in a press release that the police received a report of two armed people holding three hostages in a residence located south of Austin.

The incident escalated into a shootout that resulted in the death of one of the hostages, one of the armed individuals, and a police officer.

The second-armed individual managed to flee the scene.

Authorities immediately intervened to rescue the remaining hostages and have initiated an investigation to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motives behind this tragic incident.

The US has been grappling with recurring incidents of gun violence, partly due to permissive gun laws that grant individuals the right to bear arms and the prevalence of violence within American society.
