Three people have died following heavy rainfall that triggered severe flooding in southeastern Bulgaria, local authorities confirmed.
Among the victims were two rescue workers, including a border police officer, while the third person died at a hotel after water levels rose rapidly.
The torrential rains, described as some of the heaviest to hit the region in recent years, prompted Bulgarian authorities to declare a state of emergency across parts of the southeast and northwest.
Emergency teams continue to assess the damage and provide relief to affected residents.
