Three people were killed after a firefighting aircraft crashed while responding to a wildfire near Fort Simpson in Canada, according to territorial fire authorities.
Rescue teams recovered the victims after the aircraft went down while battling a 100-hectare wildfire in the Martin Hills area. Officials said the victims died while carrying out firefighting operations.
The aircraft, identified as a Turbo Commander 690 Bird Dog operated by Buffalo Airways, was being used to coordinate aerial firefighting missions and direct water-bombing aircraft.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Northwest Territories coroner's office have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Fire officials described the incident as a devastating loss for Canada's wildfire response community.
