Authorities in the United States are investigating the motives behind a weekend shooting in a casino car park in the Texas border city of Eagle Pass that left two people dead and at least five others injured.
Police said on Monday that 34-year-old Kiryian Rashad Jones was arrested during a traffic stop just hours after the incident, which took place late Saturday at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino.
According to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Jones was detained on Sunday morning following a police chase near Stockdale, about 290 kilometers east of Eagle Pass. Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber confirmed that Jones faces two counts of murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities have not yet disclosed where Jones is being held or whether he has legal representation.
Lieutenant Christopher Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
