Three people were killed and several others wounded in a shooting at Michigan State University Monday night, according to authorities.
Police reported that the suspected shooter is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"There is no longer a threat on campus," Interim Michigan State Deputy Police Chief Chris Rozman said at a news conference. An earlier shelter-in-place order issued by police for the East Lansing campus was lifted.
Michigan State Police said the three confirmed dead were in addition to five people who were taken to hospital. Roseman said all five are in critical condition.
According to Roseman, two of the dead were on campus at Berkeley Hall and the third at the MSU Union. Berky is an academic building.
Police mentioned that the suspect was off-campus in Lansing and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. "Our understanding is that the suspect was confronted by law enforcement," Roseman noted.
CBS Detroit explained that the suspect lives in Lansing and that "investigators, including MSP bomb squad" were at his home overnight about two miles from where police confronted him.
Roseman said the suspect is 43 years old and has no known affiliation with the school. Roseman noted that he was not "a student, a faculty, or a staff member."
