A powerful bomb explosion in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, claimed the lives of three pedestrians, including a prominent cancer specialist, and injured 21 others on Thursday.
According to officials, the attack targeted a police vehicle, injuring four officers. Local reports indicate that unidentified militants planted an explosive device on a motorcycle, which was parked on a busy dual carriageway to strike a police patrol.
The bomb detonated upon the vehicle’s arrival, causing widespread damage to nearby shops.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, securing the area and transporting casualties to a nearby hospital. Bomb disposal teams have launched an investigation to gather evidence from the site.
The separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which has waged a long-running insurgency in the region, has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, the group carried out an assault on a train carrying 450 passengers, including military personnel, killing 26 people.
The latest attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where insurgent groups frequently target law enforcement and government infrastructure.
