Three people, including two Japanese nationals, were injured in a knife attack at a Japanese restaurant in Shanghai on Tuesday, according to Japanese and Chinese authorities.
Police said a 59-year-old man armed with a fruit knife entered the restaurant in the city’s Pudong district and attacked several people before being detained at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has a history of mental illness, and investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack remain ongoing.
