A devastating fire broke out at a nursing home near Paris on Saturday, claiming the lives of three residents and injuring nine others.
The fire occurred in a facility located in the town of Beauvais, just outside of the French capital.
Michel Lacou, the mayor of Val d'Oise, confirmed the fatalities, stating that three elderly residents, aged 68, 85, and 96, died due to smoke inhalation.
The fire severely impacted the nursing home, where 75 elderly individuals reside.
The nine injured victims include seven residents and two staff members, all of whom suffered from smoke inhalation.
Eight of the injured were quickly transported to various hospitals in the Paris area for treatment.
In a statement to BFM TV, Mayor Lacou described the incident as a serious situation for the community, adding that the fire appeared to have been an accident.
The cause of the fire is believed to have originated in a laundry room and spread to part of the third floor of the building.
French Civil Defense Agency spokesperson Adrien Bonin-Sinabayen confirmed that 140 firefighters were deployed to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control.
