Three people were killed and 14 others injured in a shooting inside a bar in Austin, Texas, authorities confirmed Sunday.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said officers responded to reports of an active shooter at Buford’s, a well-known venue in the city’s entertainment district. Upon arrival, officers encountered an armed suspect and opened fire, fatally shooting the gunman at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services Chief Robert Luckritz said three individuals were pronounced dead at the location, while 14 others were transported to area hospitals. Among the injured, three remain in critical condition.
According to officials, emergency responders arrived within seconds of receiving the call at 1:39 a.m., immediately beginning treatment for victims. Authorities credited the rapid response of police and medical teams with preventing further casualties.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson praised first responders for their swift action, saying their efforts undoubtedly saved lives.
An investigation into the motive behind the Texas bar shooting is ongoing. Law enforcement officials have not yet released additional details about the suspect.
