Three climbers, including one foreign national, have been killed and eight others remain missing after an avalanche struck a group of mountaineers on a Himalayan peak in Nepal, police confirmed on Monday.
According to police official Jayan Kumar Mahato, five of those missing are foreigners. The incident occurred on Mount Yalung Ri Himal, which stands 5,630 meters high in the Dolakha region, northeast of Kathmandu.
Authorities have not yet released the nationality of the deceased foreign climber or the missing individuals. Mahato added that four injured climbers were rescued and taken to a nearby village for medical treatment.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with both helicopters and ground teams from the army and police deployed in the area.
Mount Yalung Ri lies in the Rolwaling Valley in northeastern Nepal, a region known for its challenging mix of rock, ice, and snow, conditions that often pose serious risks to climbers.
