Somalia’s defense ministry said its armed forces killed 29 militants from the al-Shabaab group during a security operation in central Somalia, carried out in coordination with international partners.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Somali Ministry of Defense said the operation took place in the Jabad Godani area of the Middle Shabelle region. The ministry said the militants were neutralized during targeted actions against the group’s positions.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked organization, has waged a long-running insurgency against the Somali government and regularly carries out attacks targeting security forces and civilians.
Somali authorities said the latest operation forms part of an ongoing campaign to weaken the militant group’s operational capabilities, disrupt its presence in central regions, and improve security with support from international allies.
