At least 28 workers were killed after a gold mine collapsed in Angola, according to local officials and media reports.
The accident occurred early Saturday in Bengo province, northeast of the capital Luanda, where informal miners were extracting gold and other strategic minerals.
Police confirmed that the victims, aged between 18 and 45, were recovered from the collapsed mine, while rescue operations continue amid fears more people may still be trapped.
Authorities said 13 of the dead belonged to the same family.
Angola’s vast mineral wealth, including gold and diamonds, continues to attract thousands of artisanal miners despite dangerous working conditions.
