At least 27 people have been confirmed dead following two days of intensive joint military operations by the United States and Israel in northwestern Iran. The strikes, which targeted several strategic locations in the East Azerbaijan province, represent a significant expansion of the ongoing military campaign against the Iranian regime.

Casualties in East Azerbaijan

Majid Farshi, the Director General of Crisis Management for East Azerbaijan Province, confirmed the death toll to reporters on Monday. He stated that the casualties occurred during a series of precision strikes that hit multiple facilities over the past 48 hours. While the Iranian government describes those killed as "martyrs," international reports suggest the targets included security headquarters and military infrastructure.

A Broader Military Campaign

These strikes are part of a massive coordinated effort—codenamed Operation Roaring Lion by Israel and Operation Epic Fury by the United States. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), more than 1,000 sites across Iran have been targeted since the start of the operations on February 28. The campaign was triggered following reports of the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and several top military commanders.

Regional Impact and Response

The ongoing aerial bombardment has utilized a wide array of advanced military hardware, including B-2 stealth bombers and F-35 fighter jets. In response, Iran has launched retaliatory strikes against U.S. bases in the region and Israeli territories. The escalation has sent shockwaves through global markets, with European gas prices reportedly surging by 22% as the conflict threatens vital energy corridors.

As the joint forces continue their "decapitation campaign" against the Iranian leadership, the humanitarian toll is rising, with the Iranian Red Crescent reporting hundreds of casualties nationwide.
