At least 26 people were killed in small towns and major cities across the south and midwest of the United States in a series of devastating tornadoes and storms that resulted in massive destruction.
The Associated Press reported that confirmed or suspected tornadoes in at least eight states destroyed homes and businesses, and uprooted trees across large areas of the country.
So far, the authorities have recorded 31 hurricanes in nine states, while the warning is still valid for more than 28 million citizens.
Rescue efforts continued, as workers used chainsaws and bulldozers to clear the affected areas, while utility teams worked to restore electricity.
The governor of Tennessee visited the affected areas, and said that the storm came at the end of his worst week as governor, as it came a few days after the shooting at a school in Nashville, which killed six people.
