At least 24 people were killed after a passenger bus carrying around 40 people plunged into the Padma River in Bangladesh, officials said Thursday.
The accident occurred Wednesday in Daulatdia, Rajbari district, about 100 kilometers from the capital Dhaka, when the driver lost control while attempting to board a ferry.
Authorities said the bus overturned and sank to a depth of nearly nine meters in the river.
Rescue teams recovered 22 bodies from inside the submerged vehicle, while two additional victims died after being pulled from the water.
Officials warned that more passengers may still be missing as search operations continue.
The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns surrounding river crossings and transport conditions in Bangladesh.
