Authorities in Serbia arrested 23 people during large-scale protest demonstrations in the capital Belgrade, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced.
The Serbian Interior Ministry condemned attacks on police officers during clashes near parliament and the University of Belgrade law faculty, confirming that several officers were injured.
The protests were held in memory of 16 people killed in the 2024 Novi Sad railway station collapse, a tragedy that has fuelled public anger and anti-government demonstrations.
Protesters reportedly threw stones, fireworks, and bottles at police, set rubbish containers on fire, and blocked roads across parts of the city.
Officials estimated attendance at more than 34,000 people, while non-governmental organisations claimed the crowd reached nearly 100,000 demonstrators.
