At least 22 people have been killed in a violent attack in central Nigeria, after gunmen opened fire in Plateau State, triggering further clashes, according to local sources.
Officials said armed attackers riding motorcycles stormed an area in Jos North, the capital of Plateau State, and began shooting at residents.
A local government official, Kabiru Sani, confirmed the initial attack, while a Red Cross official in the state reported that at least 12 people were killed in the shooting.
The violence escalated following the assault, with local leaders reporting additional fatalities. Estimates of the total death toll vary, with some sources putting the number at around 22, while others suggest it could be higher.
