At least 21 people have been killed in a violent clash between armed gangs and villagers in northern Nigeria, as insecurity continues to escalate across the region.
The attack occurred in Bunkaasau village in the Bukkuyum area of Zamfara State on Friday, when dozens of armed bandits stormed the community. Local residents said the attackers arrived on around 80 motorcycles before exchanging gunfire with villagers.
The incident is part of a wider surge in violence in northern Nigeria. According to Agence France-Presse, more than 100 people, including a military officer, have been killed by extremist groups and criminal gangs in the region since Sunday.
Zamfara State remains one of the areas most affected by Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis, with armed groups frequently carrying out raids, kidnappings, and deadly attacks on rural communities.
Authorities have yet to release a full official statement, while security forces continue efforts to restore stability in the region.
