Americans are expected to spend more than ever on Halloween this year, with total expenditures projected to reach $13.1 billion, according to the latest report by the National Retail Federation (NRF).

The figure marks a significant rise from $11.6 billion in 2024, underscoring the growing commercial power of one of the country’s most celebrated holidays.

Despite economic pressures driven by tariffs and inflation, participation in Halloween festivities continues to climb.

The NRF estimates that 73% of consumers plan to celebrate in 2025, which is the highest level recorded in a decade.

Consumer enthusiasm is reflected across all major spending categories. Expenditures on candy are expected to reach $3.9 billion, even as global cocoa prices drive up the cost of chocolate.

Costume sales remain robust, with an estimated $2 billion allocated to adult outfits, $1.4 billion to children’s costumes, and nearly $860 million to pet attire.

Decorations continue to play a major role in Halloween preparations. Americans are forecast to spend approximately $4.2 billion on pumpkins, props, and outdoor displays, transforming neighborhoods into elaborate seasonal spectacles.

The cosmetics industry is also benefiting from the Halloween surge.

Sales of fake eyelashes alone have reached nearly 2.5 million purchases in the two weeks preceding the holiday, representing a 12% year-on-year increase.

The data highlights Halloween’s growing influence on the U.S. retail economy.

Beyond its cultural significance, the holiday has evolved into a lucrative commercial event that drives consumer activity across multiple sectors each October, from fashion and beauty to food and home décor.
