2 Women Killed in Stabbing Attack in Montreal Suburb

Two women were killed and another was severely injured in a stabbing incident within a residential building located in the Vaudreuil-Dorion suburb, Canada.

According to CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, a 44-year-old man, also injured during the incident, has been taken into custody by the police.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said they were called to the highrise on Émile Bouchard Street just before noon and found three victims with serious stab wounds.

The third victim, a 70-year-old woman, was sent to a Montreal hospital in critical condition, according to a paramedic spokesperson,

The SQ said the suspect was also sent to hospital with minor injuries and will be questioned later in the day by investigators as the investigation continues.

According to a witness, the suspect lived in the building where the attack took place and appeared to be in a state of crisis.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this stage.

The assault took place just before noon local time (1700 GMT), prompting the deployment of five ambulances to the scene about 45 kilometers west of Montreal.

Further details are awaited as Quebec's police force has yet to respond to requests for additional information.
