Two pilots were killed after a Pakistani Air Force aircraft crashed during a routine training mission near the city of Mardan in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, the military said.
In a statement, the army confirmed that the aircraft went down in an open area and announced the launch of an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Army Chief Asim Munir expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and extended condolences to the pilots' families.
The incident comes less than a week after a Pakistani military helicopter crashed in Pakistan-administered Kashmir due to a technical fault, killing 22 soldiers.
Military training accidents occur periodically in Pakistan, although details of investigations are rarely made public.
