A small passenger plane crashed into a residential building in the western German town of Korschenbroich on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, according to North Rhine-Westphalia police.
Korschenbroich is situated near Mönchengladbach and close to the Dutch border.
The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time (10:30 GMT/UTC) when the aircraft struck the terrace of a building, subsequently igniting a fire. Emergency services responded swiftly, with about 50 firefighters deployed to the scene to control and extinguish the blaze.
Authorities confirmed that one of the victims was the 71-year-old pilot from Düsseldorf, who was reportedly the sole occupant of the plane. The identity and status of the second victim remain unclear, with investigations ongoing to determine whether the individual was a passenger or someone on the ground.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
