The identities of the victims have not been publicly disclosed, but the Mississippi National Guard revealed that one was a member of the Company A 1-149 Aviation Regiment, while the other was assigned to the Company D 2-151 Lakota Medical Evacuation Unit.

The two-seated AH-64 Apache helicopter was on a routine training flight when it was reported to have crashed into a wooded area.

Prentiss County Mayor Randy Tolar told WLBT, an NBC network affiliate in Jackson, that the aircraft fell off Highway 30 near the Mount Olive Baptist Church.

The church is located in the town of Baldwin, which spans Prentiss and Lee counties in northeastern Mississippi.

Shortly before the accident, wind gusts of at least 21 miles per hour were recorded in Booneville, according to the National Weather Service data.

On February 6, a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter crashed while traveling from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California amid a winter storm, killing all five US Marines aboard.

In April 2023, two AH-64 Apache helicopters from the US Army collided at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska, after a training flight, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and injuring a fourth, as reported by the 11th Airborne Division.
