The Haute-Savoie region in France has reported the tragic deaths of two skiers in an avalanche, with one person injured and five others narrowly escaping harm.

The incident occurred as they were skiing outside the designated skiing area near the resort of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, at the base of Mont Blanc in the French Alps.

Reports indicate that the accident happened yesterday afternoon when the group ventured off-piste at an altitude of around 2,300 meters. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, stands at an impressive 4,808 meters.

Avalanches are a risk in mountainous regions, especially in areas with heavy snowfall and changing weather conditions.

Authorities urge outdoor enthusiasts to adhere to safety guidelines and stay within designated areas to minimize such risks.
