2 Killed, 6 Injured in Ottawa Shooting

A shooting incident occurred on Saturday evening in Ottawa, resulting in the tragic death of two individuals and injuring six others.

The incident took place at a parking lot adjacent to a venue where two separate wedding celebrations were being held. Local police have yet to rule out any possibilities.

Ottawa Police reported that two men, aged 26 and 29, hailing from Toronto, lost their lives. Among the six injured people, there were also Americans, whose lives are confirmed to be out of immediate danger.

The shooting occurred at 10:21 PM local time in a parking lot of a conference center in the southern part of the city.

The center was hosting two separate wedding celebrations simultaneously. The witness recounted the chaotic scene, stating, that there was chaos. People were running in all directions. Law enforcement personnel swiftly responded to the scene in large numbers.

The police currently lack any evidence confirming or indicating that the shooting is a hate crime "linked to race or religious beliefs," according to Inspector Martin Groulx.

Several Canadian cities have experienced a noticeable increase in gun-related violence in recent years, with instances of "increasingly frequent" shootings, as highlighted by the Canadian government.

Since 2009, the country has witnessed an 81 percent increase in violent crimes associated with firearms.
