Police evacuated a busy shopping mall in California on Friday, one of the most crowded retail days of the year, after a shooting left two people injured.
According to the San José Police Department on X, the gunfire appeared to be an isolated incident. Officers cleared Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara to ensure there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
The two injured individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment.
San José and Santa Clara are neighboring cities located about 50 miles south of San Francisco.
The incident occurred on the day known in US retail as Black Friday, which marks the official start of the holiday shopping season and is typically the single busiest shopping day of the year.
